Medicinal and edible plants

Medicinal and edible plants

In any survival situation we must try to be familiar with the resources that are in our area. This familiarity will allow us an opportunity to forage for the essentials we need to thrive and be well prepared. One such resource is knowledge of medicinal and edible plants that surround us. Knowledge of these plants can be the difference between going hungry and being sick to one where you have food and you have medicine. Knowledge is indeed power.
I highly recommend that you invest in a little book of medicinal and edible plants particular to the area where you live. With this book you will begin to study and learn and take notes. Then, when good weather prevails, you can start to apply your theory out in the field and identify some of these essential and helpful plants in your area. What may be weeds to the untrained eye is essential and life saving food and medicine to the survivalist. From plants we can eat, make tea, and medicines. Knowing this knowledge  falls under my survival matrix which includes Food, fire, water, shelter, and security. We can also call these 5 the five pillars of survival. In this case knowing how to forage for edible and medicinal plants will fall under food and security. These 5 pillars are broad and overlap. In future posts, I will explain and teach more about the five pillars of survival.
I have attached a video to demonstrate how important it is to forage for medicinal and edible plants. This knowledge expands your capacity to be aware, thrive and survive. It can also just help you to have a good and healthy cup of tea for free!
